We enrolled a quiet three year old in Darrellyn Currier's program. The miracles began to happen: letter recognition, rhythms added letter sounds, songs reinforced meaning. We watched her confidence grow with each new experience. We watched her curiosity explode into joy in learning. She blossomed into a confident young person, a person who sought new experience, who wanted to learn.

Darrellyn Currier’s curriculum provided a love of learning. Knowledge is fun. Education is not limited to school. The love of learning is a gift that will continue to give her joy as well as knowledge. I lack superlatives for, nor could I more highly recommend, the curriculum developed by a gifted and talented teacher, Darrellyn Currier.

Pioneer Learning Curriculum has evoved from my 21 years of teaching 3 to 8 year old children.

My love for teaching began as a child. My first students were my dolls and my brother's stuffed animals. I home schooled my own children for four years. My husband and I helped open Whidbey Christian Academy, where I taught the preschool/kindergarten class.

In 1990 I received my Montessori training at Montessori World in San Louis Obispo, California. That same year my husband and I bougtht over two acres in Coupeville, on Whidbey Island, to open Garden Isle Montessori School.

Garden Isle has been very successful for the past 18 years, and because of this, it has been my desire to put together a curriculum that shares the many ideas and techniques I use with children. I have had great results teaching children to read using a phonetic reading approach. I used the best early reading books I could find, but wanted a central theme to totally capture a child's interest, resulting in my creating the Pioneer Reading Program.

Students continue to leave the program confident, independent learners who find satisfaction in accomplishing hard work.
